The Village Today
Many of the original buildings in the Village remain today.
There was originally a Victorian corner and today only two of the four buildings are still intact.
These are on the corner of Mt Eden Rd and Stokes Rd and the corner of Mt Eden Rd and Essex St. They are currently Barfoot and Thompson and Fraser’s Café.
Unfortunately the other 2 buildings have been redeveloped.
Many of the same owners have operated the stores in the Village over a long period and these people have become local identities.
Ross's Super Meats have just celebrated 50 years in the Village and K C Loo Fruit and Vegetables closely follow this record.
The Mt Eden Village Fish Store is operated by a third generation of the same family and other business owners have had more than one business in the Village, such is the passion for it.
Mt Eden Village is one of the few remaining genuine villages in the greater Auckland area. It is very well supported by an active community that are proud of and very interested in the area.
The current Chairman of Mainstreet Assn is a very well known ex mayor of Mt Eden, Gordon Johns.
Artists in Eden are an annual event in March and are a great platform for up and coming artist. In the two weeks leading up to this event there are art competitions in the store and many of the artist can be seen painting in windows in the stores.
