Chapter specializes in loose leaf teas and tea accessories. They also sell romance, and some crime fictional books. They also have a small cafe onsite serving light food.
I spoke to the owner, Frances Loo (pictured).
What do you sell?
We mainly sell speciality loose leaf tea. We sell all the accessories for making tea. We have about 100 varieties of tea. The books are a newer addition but the concept is tea and books. We have a cafe where we serve sandwiches, loaves and cookies.
What do you see your shop as providing to the Village?
We are a destination store offering lots of choice in loose leaf tea. The shop is relaxing and I think it is an interesting concept.
How long have you had a shop in the Village?
For four years.
How do you think the Village differs from other shopping centres?
It has a real village feel. It is a compact area so it makes it easier to be part of the community.
What do you enjoy most about Mt Eden Village?
My family run a business in the village (K C Loo) so I feel very comfortable in the Village.
Where you born in New Zealand?
Yes and I attended all the local Mt Eden schools.
If you were not running Chapter what would you do?
I was an investment analyst for 20 years so this is my second career but if I wasn't doing this I would like to be involved in local body politics or community work. It is important to have a voice in your community.
What is your idea of great food?
I was bought up with Chinese food so European food is what I turn to for a treat. I like sushi and like a meal with lamb or beef.
What is your favourite meal of the day and why?
Dinner. It signals the end of the day and its time to relax.
What would you call a great holiday?
A big city. USA - West Coast or New York City. I would love to go to New York browse the book shops and drink coffee.
If you had to give up everything and choose one thing (object not person) to keep what would it be?
Material things don't mean that much to me but if I had to choose one it would be my book collection.
