Not everyone can say that their job description entails boosting customer’s self esteem, but for Mt Eden’s new About Face clinic, this is exactly what their team does best. “It has always been a personal mission of mine to make people feel good about them selves, and I love that we get to do that everyday,” said the founder of About Face, Marianna Glucina.
As a local resident of Mt Eden, Marianna was pleased to open the fifth branch of the beauty therapy clinic in the Mt Eden Village on July 20. “I have wanted to get into the village for such a long time because I always felt that there was a real need for the services we offer here,” Marianna said.
The clinic, that offers a whole range of beauty treatments from Swedish massages and eye lash tints to hair removal and make up lessons, essentially specializes in skin care. “My passion has always been skin and fixing particular skin concerns and ageing. So that is very much what we focus on,” Marianna said.
Marianna started About Face just over 20 years ago, and did so with a mission to change the public perception of beauty therapy. “In those days beauty therapy was in its infancy and it was something that was often done behind closed doors. But I wanted people to know that the power of touch can make a huge difference in someone’s life, and that beauty therapy was there and it was available and it wasn’t something to be ashamed of.”
With two daughters aged 10 and 12 Marianna feels strongly about keeping the company in the family. “I am very lucky because one of my girls at the moment shows a lot of interest. She plays shop all the time, and paints nails and does massages. She is showing a lot of potential,” she laughs.
After being in the village for only a week, Marianna and her team have been amazed at the amount of interest in the clinic. “I have been overwhelmed by how much support we have received from the Mt Eden community. We have just found everyone to be really warm and friendly. We were even given a cake from the City Cake Company.”
The Mt Eden About Face clinic is one of five branches in Auckland, all which have a unique style. The Mt Eden branch was designed with a French provincial character, however all the five branches have the same systems, the same products, the same treatments and this Marianna feels is what makes About Face stand out.
